{November 15, 2007}   They drove me to drink!

So, now I feel like I am at a point that I can write about the camera crew without saying something I’ll regret.

It all started on Friday evening. Just before I left work to meet Ted and Tina at the hotel I received an e-mail from a producer of the Penn and Teller show on Showtime. He said that they were going to have a camera crew filming at the Carolina Ren Faire and that they had been told that it might be “Invasion” weekend. He got my e-mail addy from doing research through google. I know what you are thinking, but it is very likely that he did since my e-mail has been plastered all over the boards because of the Invasion dinner. Anyway, they were looking for real Ren Faire “fans” to film and interview. I told him that I couldn’t speak for the group, but if he wanted he could stop by the shop and ask for Ted and he would be able to point them in the direction of the guild members. Everyone checks in at the shop at some point during the day. He thanked me and said they would do that.

I printed out his e-mail and my response and showed it to everyone when I got to the hotel. We were all somewhat  curious especially since P&T got their start at MDRF.

Saturday, I had to work. Just before I left work I got a phone call from Tina telling me that the camera crew would be at the Invasion dinner. I was not extremely happy about this, but I figured that the Local had agreed to it. I found out later that poor Ted was pretty much badgered into saying yes by someone that I will not name (we still have to play nice.)

The camera crew arrived before many of the guests did and my mood went from excited to see everyone to I need another drink. They were rude, and for lack of a better word commandeered our dinner.  I have never been so happy to see someone leave as I was to see them leave.

After they left those of us who were still there (more than half of the dinner guests left) had a great time.

Yesterday, with the help of many of my friends I sent the producer (he was not on site or at the dinner) an e-mail expressing my disappointment in the behavior of the camera crew. He was very apologetic in his response.

That’s where we leave it. I am done. I will dwell on it no more.

Thanks to everyone who has quietly (and no so quietly) listened to my rants about this. I promise that dinner next year will not include ANY camera crews!

{November 12, 2007}   Otter Invasion

So, this weekend was the “Invasion” of the Wenches and Rogues Guilds for the Faire. Friday night we checked into the hotel Otter and said our hellos. It was great to see everyone. Tina, Ted and I went to dinner at the Galway Hooker and had a great meal. A good many people were staying on the same floor with us so we hung out a bit before going to bed.

Saturday I had to work in the real world while everyone else went to the Faire. I left work at 5 and went to pick up the food for the Invasion dinner. I was informed just before I left work that there would be a film crew coming to the dinner* (I am not going to write much about this, yet.) Having picked up the food and set up the buffet I realized that we were not going to have enough food so, Lady Privy ran across to Harris Teeter and picked up more. Note to self,  35 RSVP’s = 60 people. While the food was good, the camera crew worked on everyone’s last nerves (they drove me to drink) and we didn’t really get into comfortable socializing until they were gone. Once they were gone those of us who were left had a great time.

New rule for next year: No Film Crews no matter what show they are with!!!!!!

Sunday I actually got to go to the Faire. Ted went in early to set up the shop while Tina and I slept in. Once there we took turns watching the shop. Tina and I watched the shop while Ted went off to play for awhile. Then Ted stayed at the shop while Tina and I went shopping. We had a really good day even after the sun went under and we were freezing.

After Faire we went out for Japanese food with Rivka and Sass, Celtic and her man, and Bea. We had a lot of fun and drank some smooth Sake. After, we said our goodbyes and went home.

See you all at GARF!!!

* It is possible that I will write more about this later, but I am trying very hard to keep myself from writing something that I might  regret.

My “busy” Work.

{October 29, 2007}   Carolina Ren Faire

We had a great weekend at the Faire. The shop stayed pretty busy and there were lots of Trick or Treaters about. I spent a little time knitting behind the counter and while I walked aroud some. Two of my friends from the “real” world stopped by.  If they didn’t already, they now think I am totally out of my mind. They like me anyway. I keep things interesting. hehehhe

{October 26, 2007}   “Papa needs new yarn.”

I watched ‘Pushing Daisy’s’ last night. If you haven’t seen it I do recommend it. It is very different in an interesting and fun way. One of the male leads (sorry, I can’t remember the character name) is a knitter. I didn’t get to see the first episode, but I have been told that he knit quite a bit in it. Last night he had the best line!! (please see title of this entry.)  I am definitely looking forward to seeing more.

In case you want to know:    Pushing Daisy’s  is on Wednesday nights at 8 pm (EST) on ABC.

In other news I bought 2 new knitting books! (I didn’t say it was interesting news :-p

I finally got Yarn Harlot. I read a little bit of it on my dinner break and I can’t wait to read more.

I also got The Little Box of Knitted Gifts because in my world you can never have too much yarn or too many knitting books. lol

Well, I guess that I should get back to work.

Yeats on a sweater, originally uploaded by lilirose2101.

I took this pic this morning. Yeats was napping on a partial sweater that I made last year. I made him open his eyes so that you could tell he has a face.
